It is difficult to estimate how many years photography might have been delayed if someone, such as Eastman, had not had such an intense desire to take pictures. If we were to withdraw the work of all the photographic pioneers from tintype to technicolor, there would be many thousands of persons working now in different jobs. There would be no Hollywood or movie theatres, no snapshots in American homes, and no pictures in the magazines and newspapers. George Eastman made a great contribution to world progress and his work has clearly shown us that, in the early stages of a problem, the desire to do a thing is more essential than technical knowledge, and this same desire is also the best guarantee of final success. ● |
