56. Purple Dye, Sun Glasses and Malaria
This is a typical story of progress. It
started a hundred years
ago and dozens of men carried on the work. Out of this search has come
a new method of making dyes, and a great industry. And the final answer
is found as a by-product of a search for an optical material - a far
cry from a medicine to combat Malaria.
But all of these men found
something and added to the sum total of human knowledge. That is the
secret of progress. As long as we try and patiently do our best to
solve the problem, although we may not get the answer we are looking
for, we always get something - even if it is only the valuable
experience. ●
