English chemist and writer who, as a research chemist, became a part-time author to bring that science to the lay reader and juveniles. Her books include Chemistry in the Schoolroom: 1806, in which she reintroduces selections from Conversations on Chemistry written by Jane Marcet who presented chemistry to a lay audience particularly to include women.
