Winthrop Praed
(26 Jul 1802 - 15 Jul 1839)

English politician who died young, at age 37, from tuberculosis, but is remembered for a collection of light, witty verses, some with biting satire. He was elected to Parliament in 1830, and was secretary to the Board of Control (1834-35).
