Karl Theodor Jaspers
(23 Feb 1883 - 26 Feb 1969)
German-Swiss philosopher and psychiatrist who promoted existentialism. He helped establish psychopathology with a rigorous, scientifically descriptive basis. During the Nazi period in Germany, he was barred from teaching (1938-45) and subsequently settled in Switzerland (1948).
