Carl Gustav Carus
(3 Jan 1789 - 28 Jul 1869)

German physiologist, psychologist and painter who studied painting and drawing to acquire the skill required for his botanical studies. In 1829, he wrote that biology is regulated by a psychological 'plan' that contains a biological 'unconscious.'
